The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Trollslayer shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gingerbeard's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Trollslayer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gingerbeard can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Trollslayer controls the pace.
Gingerbeard wants to stand but Trollslayer is controlling the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Trollslayer has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Trollslayer there as he acknowledges the shot.
Gingerbeard throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Gingerbeard gets caught napping as Trollslayer dives in and scores a takedown. Gingerbeard manages to retain guard.
Gingerbeard controls Trollslayer momentarily but Trollslayer frees himself.
Gingerbeard wants to get back to his feet but Trollslayer is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Trollslayer throws an elbow that misses. Gingerbeard uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Trollslayer's guard. Nice move by Gingerbeard!

Trollslayer managing to control the position.
Gingerbeard looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Trollslayer wants to sweep here but Gingerbeard controlling him for the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Trollslayer striking off his back but it's not causing Gingerbeard any problems.
Trollslayer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Gingerbeard won't allow Trollslayer to sweep him here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Trollslayer changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gingerbeard looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Gingerbeard is trying to improve his position.

Gingerbeard is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Trollslayer has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Trollslayer manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gingerbeard on his heels. He'll look to pass Gingerbeard's guard now, I'm sure.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gingerbeard can do anything to dispel that myth.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Gingerbeard is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Trollslayer asserts his dominance and retains side control.
