PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Gregor (ranked 689 p4p, 532 weight class) and Sol Kwon (ranked 106 p4p, 86 weight class). Kwon has chosen Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 29 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Gregor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sol Kwon!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kwon dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
The fighters circling - Kwon throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Gregor steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kwon.
A little feinted left hand from Gregor on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Kwon feints and then cracks Gregor's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gregor down.
Gregor has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Crapollas Gym in the buildup to the fight.

Kwon has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Gregor is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Gregor walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sol Kwon dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kwon fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gregor has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Kwon has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Gregor might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.

That was a close second round but I would say that James Gregor will probably get the nod.

A lazy left from Kwon finds it's target.

Sol Kwon seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gregor lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Gregor looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Gregor. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kwon shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Kwon connects with a good right hand that stumbles Gregor. Gregor circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Gregor takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Kwon steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gregor.
Kwon scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Kwon is looking to score with low kicks.

Sol Kwon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kwon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
