The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rose is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Kontiainen misses with a looping right.
Rose throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rose misses the shot to the body.
Kontiainen misses with an uppercut. Rose saw that one coming.
Rose feints the counter takedown.
Rose throws a right hand that Kontiainen ducks under and follows up with a left that Kontiainen also avoids with ease.
Kontiainen lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Rose looks to throw a body kick
and Kontiainen counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kontiainen tries to land a front kick but Rose steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

and Rose counters with a three punch combo that has Kontiainen backing up. Kontiainen nods at Rose to acknowledge the strikes.

And Rose tries to counter it with a takedown but Kontiainen pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Kontiainen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Paavali Kontiainen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Rose is working for takedown but Kontiainen is calmly controlling the position for now.

I was talking to Kontiainen's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
