Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joseph Allen (ranked 5677 p4p, 3049 weight class) and Assad Fez (ranked 0 p4p, 396 weight class). Assad Fez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joseph Allen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Assad Fez! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fez lands with an uppercut that bounces Allen off the cage and back into range. Fez swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Allen feinted with a counter takedown. Allen takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Fez throws a body shot but no joy. Fez scores with a sloppy right hand. Allen should have avoided that one. Fez throws a right hand that Allen ducks under and follows up with a left that Allen also avoids with ease. Allen changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Allen slips a straight right by Fez. Fez moves into the clinch. Fez fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Allen displaying some good clinch control by pressing Fez up against the cage. Allen has had enough of the clinch but Fez keeps him there for the moment. Fez misses with a punch to the body.
Allen is trying to break the clinch but Fez has him pressed against the cage. Allen has Fez pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Allen pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Fez tumbling to the mat - Allen dives into Fez's guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Allen is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's one minute gone in the round. Allen in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Fez wants to stand but Allen is controlling the position. Allen content to stall in guard here. Allen throwing strikes from guard but Fez blocks nicely. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Fez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Allen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Fez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Fez misses with a straight right. Allen attempts a counter takedown but Fez avoids it well and moves away. Jab from Fez. Fez misses with a combination
and Allen counters with a nice double leg into guard. Allen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Allen seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fez for as long as he can get away with. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fez is trying to keep Allen in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Allen closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fez quickly recovers to half guard. Allen slips a nice elbow through Fez's hands, connecting with Fez's forehead. Allen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Allen not doing much here.

A close round but Assad Fez will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Allen gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Fez. Nice defenses there by Allen. Allen tries to counter with a takedown but Fez is quick to defend against it. Allen moves out of range of the strikes. The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Fez misses with a left hand and Allen counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Allen working Fez over with strikes. Allen missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Allen perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Allen sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Fez defending well though. Allen missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Allen working over Fez with some ground and pound. Fez looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Allen perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Allen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Allen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Fez knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Allen is controlling the pace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Fez avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Allen. Allen keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Fez pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Allen tries to counter with a takedown but Fez is quick to defend against it. Fez misses with a hook. Allen on the wrong end of a nice hook. A big left from Fez misses. Fez looks to throw the jab but Allen is out of range. Allen feinted with a counter takedown. Assad Fez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice uppercut there from Fez. A swing and a miss from Fez. Allen attempts a counter takedown but Fez avoids it well and moves away. Fez's jab looks to have found its range, popping Allen under the eye. Fez lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Fez misses with a hook

That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Allen stands up over Fez, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Joseph Allen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Allen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fez works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Allen sitting in guard, not really doing much. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Assad Fez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round! Allen ducks under a wild hook from Fez. Fez throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Allen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Allen is in close to Fez's body, working some short punches and elbows. Allen throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Allen with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Allen landing with the ground and pound. Fez avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Fez can do anything to dispel that myth. Allen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Allen missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Fez tries to clinch but Allen is having none of it. Fez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Fez lands a right hook to the body.
A lazy left from Fez finds it's target. Fez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Fez tries to clinch but Allen is having none of it. Allen appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Allen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fez as he jumps to the side. Fez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Allen.
Fez looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Allen blocks a jab. Fez might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Fez connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Allen momentarily.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Allen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Joseph Allen. I think Fez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
