Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rob Cervantes (ranked 3142 p4p, 3911 weight class) and Juan Diego (ranked 362 p4p, 431 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rob Cervantes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Juan Diego !
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Michael Johnstone and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diego fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Cervantes has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Diego tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cervantes swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cervantes takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Cervantes defending well as Diego loads up on a big left hand.
Diego throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Diego thows a left - swing and a miss!
Cervantes uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Diego .
Cervantes drops down looking for a counter takedown but Diego sprawls and moves away.

and Cervantes counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Diego !
Cervantes moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Cervantes has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cervantes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cervantes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Diego really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cervantes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Diego is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Cervantes has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Cervantes thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
We've been hearing that Cervantes has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
The referee asks Cervantes politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Cervantes prefers to stall for the moment though.

Cervantes is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Diego to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Diego shrugs it off.

Cervantes cracks Diego with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Cervantes has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Diego 's face.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Diego steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Cervantes.
A slow jab from Diego misses its intended target.
Juan Diego is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cervantes shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Diego defends it nicely.

Cervantes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Cervantes is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Cervantes is nestled in close to Diego , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Cervantes is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Diego can do to turn this around?
Cervantes is taking a breather. Diego says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Cervantes is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Diego is breathing heavily.

Cervantes seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
