PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ray Turn (ranked 4371 p4p, 2235 weight class) and Rav Kapur (ranked 475 p4p, 250 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ray Turn !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rav Kapur!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Michael Johnstone and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Turn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kapur has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Kapur circles away from the clinch attempt.
Turn misses the jab.

Turn closes the distance and clinches.
Kapur is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Turn wants to take the fight to the mat but Kapur manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Turn is looking to take this one to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ray Turn . That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kapur gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Kapur pushes down on Turn 's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Turn is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kapur's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kapur's back!
Turn controlling well, preventing Kapur from escaping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kapur defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Turn 's arms.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
You can see the frustration on Kapur's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Turn looking for the choke but no joy.
Turn has the hooks in. Kapur is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Kapur is keeping busy.

Turn has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Kapur has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Turn seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Kapur trying to control the hands but Turn breaks the grip.
Kapur is trying to remain composed but Turn is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.

Turn is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Kapur knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Kapur for a finish.
Kapur staying busy and making it hard for Turn to control.

Turn has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Kapur covering up well and avoiding damage.
Kapur can't escape the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Turn is punishing Kapur with some ground and pound.
Turn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Turn looking for the choke but no joy.
Kapur is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Kapur is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kapur can't escape the position.
Kapur manages to reverse the position and now he's in Turn 's guard. Nice work there by Kapur.

Turn is trying to keep Kapur in close.
Turn looking for a sweep. Not yet Turn , not yet.
Turn has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kapur has passed into side control.
Turn can't do much from the bottom here.
Turn is trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Kapur in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Turn is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Rav Kapur!
Rav Kapur decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
