PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight kickboxing rules bout between Papa John (ranked 23289 p4p, 2035 weight class) and Ping Lee (ranked 527 p4p, 210 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Papa John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ping Lee!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
John fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Lee has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Lee throws a looping overhand right but John ducks down to avoid it.
Lee scores with a decent looking hook.
Lee throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent John stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
John walks into a stiff left hand from Lee.
Lee dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on John. That did some damage!
John takes one on the button.
John takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
John misses with a jab, cross combination.
Lee is clearly trying to counter these attacks from John with a body shot.
Lee is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Lee looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
John tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lee throws a lazy right hand but John sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Lee tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but John was well out of range. Poor timing from Lee.
Ping Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lee turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Lee scores with a jab to the jaw.
John keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
John seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Lee is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by John.
Lee has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by John.
Lee has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Lee swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A low kick from John is predictable there
and Lee counters with a lovely straight right hand!

John throws a wild body kick that Lee sees coming a mile off.
John definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
John buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Lee throws a push kick but John slaps the foot to one side.
As Lee looks to move away, John throws a big counter combo but Lee just gets out of the way.
John is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

As Lee tries to get set, John tries to push him back and clinch up but Lee manages to avoid the attempt.

John fakes the leg kick and cracks Lee in the body.
Lee changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
John fails in his attempt to clinch.

and John counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from John.
Lee misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
John throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lee throws a hook to the side of John's head but John sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

John closes the distance and clinches.

Lee's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ping Lee dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Lee fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt John.
Ping Lee seems to be getting the better of the standup.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! John crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Lee - the referee stops the clock and John gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Lee. John manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

John tries a low kick but Lee avoids it.
Lee swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Lee throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

and John counters with a series of strikes. Lee will be more careful next time no doubt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
John does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Lee throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

As Lee looks to move away, John throws a big counter combo but Lee just gets out of the way.
Lee ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
An inside leg kick lands from John.
Lee punishes John's body with a nice straight punch.
Lee cracks John with a good jab.
Lee throws out a leg kick but John moves out of range and Lee only half commits.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ping Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

The count has reached 5 and he's only back to 1 knee - it's going to be close! 6,7,8 - he's up! No! He's back down again! 9...10 - he's can't beat the count and John is victorious!
