PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hero Primo (ranked 4044 p4p, 2855 weight class) and Hilly Berrington (ranked 451 p4p, 320 weight class). Berrington has chosen Real Man's Man as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Hero Primo could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Hilly Berrington's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Hero Primo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hilly Berrington!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Richard Clark and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Primo lands a nice shot to the body.
Primo ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Berrington misses with a takedown attempt - Primo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Primo tries to land a front kick but Berrington steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Berrington wants to counter the offense by Primo and move into the clinch position.

and Berrington decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Primo's guard.

Primo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Berrington gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Berrington got a little sloppy there for a moment and Primo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Berrington has managed to get both his arms back between Primo's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Primo is looking for a triangle but Berrington pushes his legs off easily.

Berrington wanted to stand there but Primo had control of the position.

Primo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Berrington gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Primo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Berrington doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Berrington manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Berrington must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Primo can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Berrington controls the pace.

Primo moves into the clinch.
Berrington has Primo pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Primo manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Berrington goes for a takedown attempt but Primo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Primo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Berrington can do to turn this around?

Primo bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Berrington's head backwards.

Berrington is trying hard to land a takedown here. Primo sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Hero Primo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hilly Berrington.
Primo leaves Berrington with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Primo is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Primo wants to slow Berrington down by chopping away at his legs.

Berrington closes the distance and clinches up with Primo, looking for a takedown. Berrington pushes Primo against the cage but Primo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A looping hook to the body misses from Primo. Berrington does a little dance to reset his feet.

Berrington shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Primo but Primo pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Primo closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Berrington is not content to let Primo control the position.
Berrington takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Hero Primo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Berrington is looking for a sweep.
Primo is staying tight to Berrington's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Primo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Berrington keeps working.

Primo throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Berrington works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Primo is keen to just control but Berrington is a slippery customer.
Primo wants to pass the guard but Berrington is defending well.
Berrington misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Berrington trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Primo has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Berrington's face.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Primo is looking to work his way around to Berrington's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Primo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Primo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The referee asks Primo politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Primo prefers to stall for the moment though.

Primo is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Berrington's shoulder. That is not cool.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Primo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Berrington changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Berrington shoots in but Primo avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Primo drops down looking for a counter takedown but Berrington sprawls and moves away.

Primo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Berrington was covering up waiting for the punch and Primo finishes the takedown easily into guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Berrington tries to get to full guard but Primo has control of the leg.
Primo is looking to stall here but Berrington recovers full guard.

Berrington isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Primo stacks Berrington on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Primo!

Primo is working to tighten his grip on Berrington's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Berrington has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Primo is really squeezing tight and eventually Berrington passes out! Primo breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

During a confident post fight interview, Hero Primo thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
