PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Simon Gustafsson (ranked 653 p4p, 890 weight class) and Sol Kwon (ranked 100 p4p, 139 weight class). Kwon has chosen Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Simon Gustafsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sol Kwon!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kwon misses with a straight left.
Kwon is looking to slow Gustafsson down with leg kicks.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gustafsson or perhaps it was just good defense by Kwon, which made it look bad.

Gustafsson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Kwon is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.

Sol Kwon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gustafsson avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Gustafsson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Gustafsson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kwon defends it nicely.
Kwon throws out a counter right but Gustafsson avoids it with no problem.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Gustafsson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kwon throws a front kick aimed at Gustafsson's knee but Gustafsson avoids it well.
Simon Gustafsson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kwon throws out a loose jab but Gustafsson uses good head movement to avoid it.
As Kwon backs away, Gustafsson returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Gustafsson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Kwon looks to land a left hand but Gustafsson moved out of range nicely.
Sol Kwon seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Kwon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Gustafsson throws a low kick, looking for Kwon's leg but Kwon calmly moves out of range.
Kwon has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kwon looks to land a left hand but Gustafsson moved out of range nicely.

Gustafsson takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Kwon will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Gustafsson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Gustafsson shoots for a double leg takedown but Kwon sprawls well. He's pushed Gustafsson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Gustafsson shoots in and bounces Kwon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Gustafsson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kwon manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gustafsson has Kwon in his guard.

Kwon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gustafsson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gustafsson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kwon is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gustafsson, into his guard.

Kwon got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gustafsson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kwon has managed to get both his arms back between Gustafsson's legs - danger averted.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Gustafsson has his foot on Kwon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kwon works his way back into a safe position though.

Kwon is stalling in the full guard.

Gustafsson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Kwon escapes and throws Gustafsson's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Kwon is staying tight to Gustafsson's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Gustafsson tries to bench press Kwon off him but Kwon keeps the position.
Gustafsson is trying to escape the position but Kwon is controlling the position.
