PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rod Swagger (ranked 3989 p4p, 3727 weight class) and Chuck Forrest (ranked 509 p4p, 475 weight class). Chuck Forrest will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rod Swagger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chuck Forrest!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Forrest shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Swagger sprawls well. Swagger wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Forrest gets slowly back to his feet.
Forrest shoots in for a double leg but Swagger sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Forrest fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Swagger, pushing him back against the cage.
Swagger effectively controlling the action here.
Swagger tries to score a body lock takedown but Forrest shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Swagger gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Forrest regains guard.

Swagger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Forrest swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Swagger tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Swagger has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Forrest tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Swagger shoots in for a takedown but Forrest shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Forrest throws a fast counter high kick but Swagger manages to duck under it in time.

Swagger tries to pull guard but Forrest forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Forrest is trying to push Swagger away but Swagger has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

My spies in GinĂ¡sio Guerreiro inform me that Forrest has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Swagger had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Forrest defends it easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Forrest will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

We've been hearing good reports from Swagger's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Swagger looks up at the clock and then as Forrest takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Swagger smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Forrest is desperately trying to improve his position but Swagger has a good base and remains in mount.

I would just about give that final round to Chuck Forrest.
I think Forrest has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
