Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Saul Bateman (ranked 3929 p4p, 4173 weight class) and Nathan Perez (ranked 506 p4p, 535 weight class). Nathan Perez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Saul Bateman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nathan Perez! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Emerson Jorge and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Perez instigates a clinch. Perez is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Bateman is defending well. Perez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bateman avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Bateman has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Perez is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Perez slowing the pace effectively. Bateman breaks from the clinch.
Perez stuffs the takedown attempt from Bateman. Bateman gets slowly back to his feet. Bateman tries for a takedown but Perez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Saul Bateman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Perez feints and as Bateman raises his hands in defense, Perez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Perez won't allow Bateman to sweep him here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Perez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Perez is looking to advance position but Bateman has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Bateman can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Perez is looking to escape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Perez tries to hold on but Bateman pushes him away. Perez tries to control the position but Bateman now has his back.
Perez wants to control his opponent's hands but Bateman gets his hands free. Bateman keeps control of the position as Perez tries to break free.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Bateman's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Perez is trying to defend against the choke here but Bateman has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Bateman Tightens the hold and Perez taps out furiously! Bateman displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Saul Bateman!
