Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tran Quaach (ranked 5236 p4p, 6972 weight class) and Gretchen Alexander (ranked 640 p4p, 766 weight class). Gretchen Alexander has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Tran Quaach's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tran Quaach! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gretchen Alexander! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Dean Styles and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Quaach gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Alexander to score an easy takedown into full guard. Alexander tries to free his leg and advance position but Quaach is retaining full guard. Alexander keeps trying to improve his position. Alexander working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Alexander looking to pass the guard. Quaach avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Quaach has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alexander stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Quaach swivels though and keeps the full guard. Alexander is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Alexander throwing strikes from guard but Quaach blocks nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Quaach utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Alexander's corner is telling him to maintain position. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Quaach misses with a straight right. Alexander has his takedown stuffed and Alexander takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Alexander swings widly with a right hand
and Quaach counters with a nice uppercut. Alexander throws a poor cross that misses
and Quaach makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Alexander changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Quaach looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Alexander has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Alexander with the ground and pound from mount. Alexander throwing strikes here but Quaach is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Alexander dominating with strikes here. A nice elbow there by Alexander. Quaach is in a horrible position here. Alexander smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Alexander breaks from Quaach's wrist control and lands an elbow. My spies in Beasties inform me that Alexander has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Poor strikes thrown by Alexander there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

That's four minutes gone in the round. Alexander cracks Quaach with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Alexander misses with a head shot. Alexander controlling the pace for now. Alexander working away from the top, dropping strikes. Alexander punishing his opponent with strikes. Alexander landing strikes, looking to finish! Alexander wants to finish this one by submission but Quaach is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Alexander. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Gretchen Alexander dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Alexander closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Quaach's guard. Quaach preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Alexander throws a strike but Quaach rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Alexander is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Quaach is aware though and is defending well. Quaach trying to control but Alexander is working from the bottom. Alexander is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alexander working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Quaach doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Quaach manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alexander is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alexander lands strikes from half guard. Quaach on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Gretchen Alexander has got the better of the ground game so far. Alexander not doing much here.

Alexander is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Alexander lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Alexander is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Alexander has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Ground and pound from Alexander.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alexander throwing shots but Quaach is blocking nicely. Quaach taking some punishment here, with Alexander in his half guard. Alexander not landing any meaningful shots this time. Quaach won't allow Alexander to pass to mount. Alexander content to control rather than advance. Alexander lands with a punch from half guard. Alexander is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Alexander is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Alexander missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Alexander is nestled in close to Quaach, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Alexander maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Quaach could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Alexander has cracked it and Quaach is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Alexander!
