PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rocky Balboa (ranked 6552 p4p, 3927 weight class) and Jonny Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rocky Balboa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jonny Turner!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Sam Margolis and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turner fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Balboa half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Turner tries to keep at a distance but Balboa has taken the fight into the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Balboa.
Turner misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Turner misses with some punches.
Balboa has had enough of the clinch but Turner keeps him there for the moment.
Turner fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Balboa is pushing Turner up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Turner managing to block the knees to the body from Balboa.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Turner can't find room to land a body shot as Balboa controls the action.

Turner tries to work over Balboa's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Balboa just misses with a elbow thrown towards Turner's brow.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Balboa bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Turner's guard.

Balboa is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

and Balboa counters with a one-two to the body.
Turner swings for the body but Balboa moves out of range.
Turner connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Balboa's hands.

Balboa motions for Turner to come forward. Balboa throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Turner misses with a few strikes there.
Jonny Turner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Balboa fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Turner manages to avoid it.

Turner gets caught napping as Balboa dives in and scores a takedown. Turner manages to retain guard.

Balboa thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Balboa stays in close to Turner's body and controls the position.
Balboa throws a big elbow that misses.

Balboa passes Turner's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Balboa stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Turner stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Turner wants it to stay on the feet.

Balboa rushes Turner and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Turner tries a body shot but Balboa blocks it.

Balboa jumps guard but Turner stands there with Balboa around his waist. Balboa gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Balboa is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Turner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Balboa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Balboa has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Balboa fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Balboa blocks an uppercut.
Turner has Balboa pressed against the cage, preventing Balboa from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Balboa wants to break free but Turner has control.
Turner tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Balboa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Turner utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Balboa slips nicely into half guard.
Balboa looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Turner wants to control but Balboa is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Balboa manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Balboa has control of Turner's left arm, preventing Turner from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Balboa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Turner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Turner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Balboa continues to stall.
