PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Julian Wallace (ranked 4239 p4p, 4995 weight class) and Rylee Mannion (ranked 468 p4p, 520 weight class). Wallace comes to the cage accompanied by Smile - Jimmy Durante. Rylee Mannion is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Julian Wallace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rylee Mannion!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mannion shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Wallace's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mannion working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Wallace wants to control but Mannion passes easily into half guard.
Mannion is controlling the pace.
Wallace trying to get back to full guard but Mannion takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Mannion with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wallace bucks Mannion off and manages to get back to his feet!
Julian Wallace is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

A looping hook to the body misses from Wallace. Mannion does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mannion keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Wallace.
Wallace connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Mannion moves out of range as Wallace strikes.
Wallace looks to land a combination but Mannion avoids it well.
Mannion dodges the punch combination from Wallace.
Wallace misses with an uppercut
and Mannion makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Mannion takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Wallace pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Mannion tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
The fighters circling - Wallace throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Mannion ducks under a wild hook from Wallace.
Mannion now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Wallace throws a lazy right hand but Mannion sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Wallace swings widly with a right hand

and Mannion counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mannion advances position into side control!
You can see the frustration on Wallace's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mannion is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Wallace is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Mannion cracks Wallace with a big elbow.

Mannion tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
A control attempt from Wallace but he's now mounted!
Mannion controlling from mount.
Mannion working the ground and pound effectively.
Mannion avoids the attempt from Wallace to control.
Mannion content just to control the position here.

Wallace taking shots to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wallace wants to hold on but Mannion pushes him away.
Wallace is trying to escape the mount.
Wallace knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mannion on the ground.
Wallace is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Mannion has taken his back!
Mannion lands shots from the back.
Wallace trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Rylee Mannion dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mannion feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Mannion distracts Wallace with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Mannion gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Wallace displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mannion.

Mannion fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Wallace to the ground. Mannion is now in Wallace's guard.
Wallace working a defensive guard but Mannion passes into half guard.
Wallace is looking for a sweep. Mannion is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Wallace tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Mannion has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Wallace is trying to reverse the position but instead Mannion has taken his back - oops!

Mannion is cranking Wallace's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Wallace! He's tightened the choke and Wallace is tapping out!
