PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Osiris Egyptian (ranked 83 p4p, 203 weight class) and Dick Pawlik (ranked 15 p4p, 25 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Pawlik's choice of entrance music: John Butler - Ocean . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Osiris Egyptian!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Dick Pawlik!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pawlik throws a shot from downtown. Egyptian moves away and avoids it.
Pawlik fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Pawlik throws a lazy right hand but Egyptian sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
It looked like Egyptian wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Pawlik just misses with a punch to the body.
Pawlik shoots for a double leg takedown but Egyptian sprawls well. He's pushed Pawlik's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Pawlik takes a swing at Egyptian's ribcage but misses.
Pawlik scores with a jab to the head.
Pawlik connects with a jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pawlik lands a lovely overhand right.
Egyptian tries a head kick but it misses.
Pawlik is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Egyptian.
Egyptian throws a big counter combination but Pawlik scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Pawlik has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Egyptian is landing a low percentage of strikes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pawlik is in close to Egyptian's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Egyptian working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Pawlik.
Pawlik is looking to advance position but Egyptian has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Egyptian will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Pawlik tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Egyptian swivels and escapes.
Pawlik changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Egyptian tries to avoid it but Pawlik manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Egyptian to the ground. Egyptian escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Pawlik lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

A little feinted left hand from Egyptian on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Egyptian's jab looks to have found its range, popping Pawlik under the eye.
Pawlik shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Egyptian as he avoids it easily.
Osiris Egyptian has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dick Pawlik.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

You can see the frustration on Egyptian's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Pawlik swings around for an armbar but Egyptian sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Pawlik's guard.

Pawlik bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Egyptian's guard.

Pawlik keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Egyptian's head.

Pawlik stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Egyptian swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pawlik trying to control the position from guard on top but Egyptian is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dick Pawlik is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Egyptian is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dick Pawlik comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pawlik has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Dick Pawlik started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
Osiris Egyptian was interviewed post fight and said 'I think it is time to move up to WW..'.
