Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maverick Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Atkins and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz gets tackled into the cage by Atunes . Atunes maintains the clinch.
Atunes tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Diaz just stands there and leans against the cage.
Atunes is trying to pull guard but Diaz has him pressed against the cage.
Atunes tries to pull guard but Diaz holds him up against the cage and eventually Atunes drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Rivelino Atunes . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Atunes jumps guard but Diaz stands there with Atunes around his waist. Atunes gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Atunes is trying to pull guard but Diaz turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Atunes tries to pull guard but Diaz forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Atunes lands a hook to the side of the head.
Atunes tries to pull guard but Diaz won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Atunes jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Diaz walks away with a smile on his face. Atunes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
A big right from Atunes misses.
Diaz throws a hook but Atunes blocks it.
Diaz connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Diaz misses with a straight left.
Diaz displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Atunes throws out the jab.
Atunes cracks Diaz with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diaz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Atunes clinches.
Atunes fails to pull guard.
Atunes is trying to pull guard but Diaz turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
I was talking to Atunes 's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Atunes jumps guard but Diaz turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Atunes fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Atunes jumps guard but Diaz stands there with Atunes around his waist. Atunes gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Atunes keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Diaz's efforts to push away.
Atunes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Diaz smiles and moves away.
Diaz moves away from the strike by Atunes .
Atunes falls off balance throwing a combination
and Diaz counters with a nice uppercut.
Jose Rivelino Atunes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Atunes is looking to clinch.
Diaz throws out a counter right but Atunes avoids it with no problem.
Diaz has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Atunes slips under a jab from Diaz.
Diaz's corner calls for a 1-2. Diaz obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diaz throws a good cross that connects.
Danga de danga de dang - Atunes scores with a four punch combination!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Atunes bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Diaz throws a hook but Atunes blocks it.
Diaz throws a shot from downtown. Atunes moves away and avoids it.

Atunes clinches with his opponent.

Atunes ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Atunes no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Diaz wanted to stand there but Atunes had control of the position.

Atunes is looking for a triangle but Diaz pushes his legs off easily.

Diaz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Atunes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diaz has managed to get both his arms back between Atunes 's legs - danger averted.
Diaz wants to stand but Atunes has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Atunes is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Diaz rolls with it to try and escape but Atunes cranks on the arm and Diaz is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
