PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Sheridan (ranked 3081 p4p, 24371 weight class) and Gary Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Thomas Sheridan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Gary Joe!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Atkins and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe shoots and misses

and Sheridan counters with a nice right hand that sends Joe toppling to the canvas! Joe scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Sheridan finish him?!

It looks like Gary Joe has been cut.
Joe swats away the attempt to clinch by Sheridan.
Sheridan stuffs the takedown.
Joe tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sheridan sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Joe somewhat.
Thomas Sheridan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gary Joe.
Sheridan throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Joe will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Joe shoots in looking for a takedown. Sheridan tries to sprawl out of it but Joe keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sheridan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sheridan shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Joe is trying to defend but Sheridan finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sheridan tries to stand but can't do so whilst Joe controls his leg.
Sheridan controlling the pace.

Sheridan decides to return to a standing position.
Sheridan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Joe moves away.
Sheridan keeps the fight on the outside.
Sheridan is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Joe.
Sheridan thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Joe if he has to take too many more of those.

Joe gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sheridan to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Joe manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Joe looks winded!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sheridan looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Joe lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Sheridan takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sheridan throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Joe counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Horrible takedown attempt by Joe or perhaps it was just good defense by Sheridan, which made it look bad.
Joe throws a left and a right that both miss

and Sheridan decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Joe's guard.
Sheridan wants to control from the top but Joe keeps moving.
Joe is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sheridan landing with the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sheridan trying to control the position from guard on top but Joe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Joe looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sheridan is one step ahead there.
Sheridan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sheridan advances to half guard.

Sheridan seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Joe is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Thomas Sheridan!
