The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Watson tries to close the distance and clinch but Bell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Watson looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! No luck for Bell with that takedown attempt. Bell shoots in for a double leg but Watson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Watson checks a low kick from Bell. Watson tries to bum rush Bell with a series of wild strikes but Bell uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Bell bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Watson is not content to let Bell control the position. Bell avoids the strikes from the bottom by Watson. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bell tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bell has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Bell is looking to take a break and control but Watson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. The ground and pound from Bell seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Watson parries the strikes from Bell easily there. Bell is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Watson to escape.
Watson is looking to regain half guard here but Bell keeps moving and retains side control. Bell throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Watson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bell on the ground. Bell has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Watson is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Bell yanks on the arm and Watson is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Bell.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Archie Bell!
