PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Maruim Silva (ranked 2150 p4p, 3306 weight class) and Jesse Turner (ranked 119 p4p, 175 weight class). Silva comes into the arena with Sabotage blaring out of the sound system. Maruim Silva has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maruim Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jesse Turner!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, David Schapiro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turner throws a series of punches but Silva avoids them all with ease.
Jesse Turner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva misses with the combination.
Turner ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Silva moves away.
Silva definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Silva throws a body punch but Turner moves out of range.
Silva is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Turner.

and Silva counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Turner told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Turner keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Turner is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Silva doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Silva closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Turner quickly recovers to half guard.

Turner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Silva is working for a kimura but Turner is defending it quite comfortably.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Turner can do anything to dispel that myth.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Silva shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Silva was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Turner feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Silvas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Turner lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Turner ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Silva throws a hook but Turner avoids it easily.

Silva closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Silva seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Turner does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Turner has one foot on Silva's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Turner throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Silva.
Silva doesn't succeed with the takedown

Turner has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Silva misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Turner.
Silva ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Turner moves away.

Turner shoots in and bounces Silva off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Silva bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Turner's guard.

Turner can't keep his opponent in guard - Silva advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Turner pushes Silva off looking to stand but Silva dives back in and keeps control.
Silva is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Silva looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Jesse Turner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Turner closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Silva's guard.

Maruim Silva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Turner wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Silva's closed guard. He's half up but Silva has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Silva pivots and extends the arm, Turner falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Silva! Well done that man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Maruim Silva!
An out of breath Maruim Silva thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
In defeat, Jesse Turner stepped up to the mic, saying 'fuck it'.
