Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Man! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Neer! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Patrick Alders and Paul Aken.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Neer closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Neer lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Man down.
Man being controlled for a moment. Neer working the head and body with strikes. Neer has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Man forces Neer back against the cage and clinches. Man definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Man fails to pull guard.
Neer wants the takedown. Man is fighting it off but Neer persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Man's guard against the cage. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Neer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Let's hope that Neer has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Neer drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Neer jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Man is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Man could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Man is breathing heavily. Neer drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Neer as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Man screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Neer! Nice submission victory there!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). James Neer!
