Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Michael Barnes (ranked 2446 p4p, 4350 weight class) and Patrick Slinger (ranked 258 p4p, 391 weight class). Slinger has chosen Hail Mary as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Barnes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Slinger! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A slow jab from Barnes misses its intended target. And Slinger tries to counter it with a takedown but Barnes pushes his down on his head and steps out. No luck for Slinger with that takedown attempt. Slinger shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Barnes sprawls well. Barnes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Slinger gets slowly back to his feet. Slinger shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Michael Barnes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrick Slinger. Horrible takedown attempt by Slinger or perhaps it was just good defense by Barnes, which made it look bad. Barnes scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Slinger is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Barnes is looking to take a break and control but Slinger is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Barnes is nestled in close to Slinger, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Nice strikes from Barnes there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barnes wants to control but Slinger is keeping him busy. Slinger looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Slinger keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Slinger trying to hold on to Barnes's head to control him but Barnes postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Barnes passes to side control. Slinger struggling a bit here. Slinger tries to improve position but can't. Barnes scoring with punches from side control. Barnes thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Barnes working the head and body with strikes. Slinger is not content to let Barnes control the position. You can see the frustration on Slinger's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Slinger sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Barnes working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Slinger is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Barnes's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Barnes's back! Barnes breaks Slinger's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Barnes is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Barnes wants to control from the top but Slinger keeps moving. Barnes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Slinger has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Barnes has managed to get both his arms back between Slinger's legs - danger averted. Barnes wants to control from the top but Slinger keeps moving. Barnes is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Barnes avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Barnes landing some decent shots from guard. Slinger controlling the position. Barnes slips nicely into half guard. Slinger is staying active underneath Barnes, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Barnes takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Slinger looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Barnes lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Barnes wants to control but Slinger is keeping him busy. Barnes working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Slinger is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Barnes scores with a couple of nice shots. Barnes is looking to advance position but Slinger won't allow it. Barnes looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Slinger looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Slinger wants to get back to full guard. Barnes slips a nice elbow through Slinger's hands, connecting with Slinger's forehead. Slinger looking for submissions off his back. Barnes is keen to just control but Slinger is a slippery customer. Slinger is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Barnes pulls his head out easily. Barnes is trying to control the action in half guard but Slinger is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Slinger regains full guard. Nicely done. Barnes working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Slinger's head. Barnes engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Slinger looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Michael Barnes dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! A big right from Barnes misses. Slinger changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barnes tries to avoid it but Slinger manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barnes to the ground. Barnes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Barnes tries to counter with a takedown but Slinger is quick to defend against it. Slinger moves out of range of the strikes. Barnes throws out a loose jab but Slinger uses good head movement to avoid it. Slinger gets caught flat footed, as Barnes shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Slinger is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Barnes has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Slinger to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Barnes is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Slinger pulls down on the head and he's put Barnes to sleep! This one is all over!
