Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sam Barnes (ranked 6065 p4p, 6353 weight class) and Jayson Smith (ranked 706 p4p, 729 weight class). Sam Barnes has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jayson Smith!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith dodges the punch combination from Barnes.

As Smith looks to move away, Barnes throws a big counter combo but Smith just gets out of the way.
Barnes scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

It looks like Jayson Smith has been cut.
Smith checks a low kick from Barnes.
Smith tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Smith looks to score with a jab to the body but Barnes is just out of range.
Barnes throws a leg kick but Smith sees it coming and moves out of range.
Smith takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Smith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Barnes has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barnes tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Smith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Smith takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Smith jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Barnes walks away with a smile on his face. Smith gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Barnes is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Smith presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sam Barnes.
Well Barnes has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Sam Barnes decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
