PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Dulo (ranked 2216 p4p, 5141 weight class) and Gilbert Quirk (ranked 230 p4p, 416 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alexander Dulo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Gilbert Quirk!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Winston Alpacca and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dulo shoots for a takedown but Quirk saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Dulo tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Quirk displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Dulo.
Dulo throws a body shot but no joy.
Dulo shoots in but Quirk avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alexander Dulo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dulo darts in looking for a takedown but Quirk gets double underhooks and turns Dulo into the cage.
Dulo drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Quirk is leaning against Dulo and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alexander Dulo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Quirk now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

Quirk escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Quirk will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Dulo seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Dulo looks for a takedown but Quirk sprawls well.

Quirk's jab looks to have found its range, popping Dulo under the eye.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Dulo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Quirk as he jumps to the side.
Dulo takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

A looping hook to the body misses from Dulo. Quirk does a little dance to reset his feet.
Quirk tries a quick counter leg kick but Dulo is wise to it.

Dulo goes for a double leg but Quirk avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Quirk continues to drive forward.

Dulo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Quirk lands with a nice combination. Dulo backs away looking to recover.

Dulo takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Quirk wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Quirk looks to land a combination. Dulo sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Quirk lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Quirk fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dulo manages to avoid it.
Dulo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Dulo is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Quirk can do anything to dispel that myth.
Quirk is trying to keep Dulo in close.
Dulo lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Dulo is in close to Quirk's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Dulo postures up and lands a big shot to Quirk's brow.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Dulo's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Quirk utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dulo throws a big elbow that misses.
Quirk has momentary wrist control but Dulo slips an elbow through the middle.
Dulo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Dulo distracts Quirk with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Dulo won't allow Quirk to get back to his feet.
Quirk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dulo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dulo won't allow Quirk to sweep him here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gilbert Quirk dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Dulo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Quirk circles away.
Dulo goes for a double leg but Quirk avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Quirk continues to drive forward.
Quirk stalls.
Quirk lands an uppercut.
Quirk is pushing Dulo up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Quirk misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gilbert Quirk seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Dulo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Dulo is nestled in close to Quirk, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Dulo takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Dulo lands a big elbow - Quirk is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Dulo!
