PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jewel Diaz (ranked 567 p4p, 1088 weight class) and Tree Fortay (ranked 64 p4p, 124 weight class). Diaz's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Andre Nickatina, Drought Season. Fortay comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Choice Is Yours kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jewel Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 1, fighting out of London, Tree Fortay!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Fortay finds it's way through Diaz's defenses.

Diaz dives in and scores a takedown into Fortay's guard.
Fortay is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Diaz trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Diaz postures up.
Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Fortay is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Fortay looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Diaz postures up in Fortay's guard and throws a big left but Fortay blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

and Diaz counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Diaz feints and as Fortay raises his hands in defense, Diaz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Diaz is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Our spies down at at Jed's Gym inform us that Fortay has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Fortay escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Diaz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Diaz throws an elbow that misses. Fortay uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Diaz's guard. Nice move by Fortay!

Fortay stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Diaz is on top in guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fortay wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Diaz stands up over Fortay, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Diaz fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Fortay ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Diaz moves away.
Diaz avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Fortay avoids the body shot from Diaz.
Fortay scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Fortay takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Fortay lands a nice shot that snaps Diaz's head back.
Fortay misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Fortay tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Diaz was well out of range. Poor timing from Fortay.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Diaz fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Fortay to the ground. Diaz is now in Fortay's guard.
Diaz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Fortay can do to turn this around?

Diaz wants to control but Fortay is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Fortay wants to lay and pray for a moment but Diaz keeps working.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jewel Diaz will probably get the nod.

Diaz cracks Fortay with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Diaz fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Fortay is rocked!
Fortay takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Diaz's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jewel Diaz!
A very excited looking Jewel Diaz rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
