PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Greg Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Angus MacAngus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Greg Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Angus MacAngus!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Joseph Jones and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MacAngus fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Harris doesn't manage to clinch there - MacAngus circles away.

Harris closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming MacAngus to the mat! MacAngus manages to get full guard.
MacAngus is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Harris knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for MacAngus on the ground.

MacAngus had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Harris is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. MacAngus Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Harris's back instead.
Harris might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Harris defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of MacAngus's arms.
MacAngus controlling well, preventing Harris from escaping the position.
Harris looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Harris tries to roll but MacAngus sticks to his back.

MacAngus has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Harris has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Harris can't escape the position.
MacAngus is landing with strikes from the back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

MacAngus is looking for the choke from the back position but Harris is controlling his hands well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
MacAngus misses with punches from the back.
MacAngus is looking to control Harris but Harris is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Harris tries to roll but MacAngus sticks to his back.
MacAngus scores with punches and elbows.
Harris is holding onto MacAngus's left hand, preventing any choke attempts.

Harris is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if MacAngus gets his way!

MacAngus lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Harris hold on?!
Harris has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from MacAngus.

MacAngus looking to break Harris's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Harris remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise MacAngus will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

MacAngus has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
MacAngus looks gassed!

Harris wants to get back to his feet.
Harris tries to escape but MacAngus has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Harris is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake MacAngus off. It looks like it's working - MacAngus slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Harris displaying calm under pressure there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Angus MacAngus dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


MacAngus with a lazy takedown attempt
and Harris counters with a three punch combo that has MacAngus backing up. MacAngus nods at Harris to acknowledge the strikes.
Harris fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
MacAngus avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
MacAngus doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Harris counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Harris gets a takedown into half guard.
Harris is trying to control. MacAngus wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
MacAngus is pressing down on Harris's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Harris accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now MacAngus is on top in guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Harris throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

MacAngus has gone for a leg lock! Harris slips out almost immediately though and dives into MacAngus's guard.
MacAngus is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
MacAngus has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

MacAngus seems to be working for a kimura but Harris defends the submission attempt.

MacAngus seems to be looking for submissions.
MacAngus is looking to take a break and control but Harris is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
MacAngus not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Harris is looking to control MacAngus's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Harris avoid being mounted?
MacAngus slips a nice elbow through Harris's hands, connecting with Harris's forehead.

MacAngus is working for a kimura but Harris is defending it quite comfortably.
MacAngus wants to control but Harris is keeping him busy.
Harris has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. MacAngus is working away from the top position though.
MacAngus blocks the strikes from Harris.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

MacAngus shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than MacAngus was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

MacAngus looking for a guillotine from mount but Harris is having none of it.
Harris tries to reverse the position but MacAngus maintains control.

MacAngus is working for a guillotine from mount but Harris frees his head quite easily.
MacAngus looking to ground and pound but Harris is blocking nicely.
Harris is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Harris is trying to escape the mount but MacAngus keeps good control and instead manages to take Harris's back.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

MacAngus has got his arm under Harris's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Harris has spun round into MacAngus's guard beautifully! Well done that man!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Angus MacAngus showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Harris wants to clinch up but MacAngus keeps it at a distance.
MacAngus shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Harris pinned against the cage. Harris gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

MacAngus gets caught flat footed, as Harris shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Harris's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Angus MacAngus has got the better of the ground game so far.

MacAngus is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Harris trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Harris thows a big elbow that misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
MacAngus working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Harris.

MacAngus has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Harris can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
MacAngus keeping moving, preventing Harris from controlling successfully.

Harris would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

MacAngus looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Harris trying to control the position from guard on top but MacAngus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

MacAngus is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Harris rolls with it to try and escape but MacAngus cranks on the arm and Harris is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Angus MacAngus!
