PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yuvraj Singh (ranked 70 p4p, 80 weight class) and Heavy Rain (ranked 12 p4p, 15 weight class). Rain has chosen For Heavy Metal we will die! as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Yuvraj Singh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Heavy Rain!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Paul Tew and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rain stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Singh.
Singh connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Rain's hands.
Singh steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Rain.
Singh swings away with a body shot that misses
and Rain counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Rain is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rain moves out of range as Singh strikes.
Rain is trying to counter with his kicks.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Singh - that will leave a mark!
Rain looks to land a left hand but Singh moved out of range nicely.
Singh was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Singh looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Singh lands with a nice body kick.
Singh chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Rain throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Singh cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Singh connects with a leg kick.

Rain ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Singh moves away.
Singh's jab looks to have found its range, popping Rain under the eye.
Singh throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rain replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Singh blocks it well.
Singh misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Rain connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Rain misses with a hook. Singh ducked under it nicely.
Singh throws a solid leg kick but Rain takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Singh.
Rain swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
A nice leg kick from Rain, right into the meat of the thigh.
Rain lands with a nice body kick.
Rain uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Singh.

Singh connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Rain's hands.
Rain cracks Singh with a right hand to the side of the head.

Singh darts in and clinches Rain up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Singh swings wildly with an uppercut but Rain uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rain misses with some punches.
Singh scores with a hook to the body.
Singh lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Rain misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Singh with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Singh misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Rain.

Rain breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Singh misses with a hook
and Rain counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Singh lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Rain connects with the punch.
Yuvraj Singh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Singh throws a body kick, spinning off balance
enabling Rain to counter with a crisp jab.
Rain drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Rain throws a leg kick but Singh moved away.
Singh loads up on a big right hand but Rain slips the punch.
Singh throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Rain lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Rain.
Singh throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Singh tests Rain's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Singh scores with a push kick.
Rain looks winded!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Singh throws a head kick that misses
and Rain counters with a low kick, right behind Singh 's knee.

Singh looks to land a right hand but Rain moved out of range.
Rain keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Singh.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rain! But no joy.
Nice defenses there by Rain.
A little jabbing left from Rain on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Rain takes a swing at Singh's ribcage but misses.
Singh misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rain.
Singh misses with a leg kick.
Rain throws a leg kick which misses Singh's front leg but catches the back leg as Singh tries to avoid it.
Rain lands a right hook to the body.
Singh avoids the head kick by Rain.
Singh appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Singh will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Rain swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Yuvraj Singh will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Rain avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Rain lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Singh looks for the body kick but Rain saw that one coming.

and Rain counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Rain shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Singh eats them both and turns towards Rain to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Singh misses with a jab, cross combination.
Donk. Rain catches Singh right on the button with a cross.
Singh tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Rain counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Singh takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Singh wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Rain moves out of range of the strikes.
Rain is looking for the big counter here.
Singh on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Rain fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Rain is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Singh lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Heavy Rain has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Rain throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Singh on the side of the head.

Rain breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Singh takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Rain throws a poor cross that misses
enabling Singh to counter with a crisp jab.
Singh walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Singh throws a right hand that misses
and Rain counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Nice uppercut lands for Rain. That snapped Singh's head back.
Rain uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Singh.
Nice straight punches there by Rain. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Rain.
Singh throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Rain throws a shot to the body.
Singh on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Rain. Rain obviously looking to wear him down.

Singh moves into the clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Singh tries a body shot but Rain blocks it.

Rain's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Singh swings and misses with a hook to the body.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rain! But no joy.
Singh fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Rain checks it well.
Rain has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Rain uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Singh.

and Rain counters with a nice body kick.
Rain lands with a nice body punch.
Rain avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Singh takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Heavy Rain showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Singh's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Singh ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rain moves away.
Rain scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Singh throws a right hand that misses
and Rain counters with a stiff right hand.
Singh misses with a shot to the body

and Rain counters with a crisp one two that drops Singh! Rain thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Singh to his feet! Singh is in big trouble!

Rain cracks Singh with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Rain has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Singh to stand back up!

Singh is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rain throws a sloppy head kick and Singh moves out of range easily.
Oh Singh is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Singh swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Singh seems to have got his legs back now.
Singh fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Rain looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Singh slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Rain circles away from the clinch attempt

and Rain counters with a nice right hand that sends Singh toppling to the canvas! Singh scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Rain finish him?!
Rain has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A head kick by Rain - that's a beauty! Singh is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Rain can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:13 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Heavy Rain!
A less than humble Heavy Rain misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
