PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Phillips (ranked 3319 p4p, 4372 weight class) and Vani Yani (ranked 190 p4p, 236 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Pedro Phillips!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vani Yani!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Dirk Anderson and David Hoff.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phillips tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Yani manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Yani shoots in and drives through. Phillips sprawls well.

Phillips takes the fight into the clinch.

Phillips breaks from the clinch.
Phillips pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Phillips misses with a head kick.

Phillips clinches.
Phillips landing knees to the body.
Yani is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Phillips pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Phillips breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yani fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Pedro Phillips has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vani Yani.
Phillips lands with a kick to the temple. Yani shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
A looping hook to the body misses from Phillips. Yani does a little dance to reset his feet.
Phillips throws a head kick that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Phillips moves into the clinch.
Phillips tries to land knees in the clinch but Yani avoids the damage to the body.
Phillips makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Phillips lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Yani backwards.
Yani is trying to drag Phillips to the mat but Phillips just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Phillips drops Yani with a big knee straight up the middle! Yani is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!

Yani is rocked!
Yani takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Yani is still on wobbly legs! Can Phillips finish him?
This has been an exciting period of action!
Yani fails with the takedown.
Phillips throws a head kick but Yani moves out of range.
Yani drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Phillips defends it well.

Phillips feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Yani sprawling to the canvas! Yani rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Phillips finish him?!
Phillips throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Yani crashing down! Yani tries to stagger back to his feet but Phillips just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Yani asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Pedro Phillips!
