PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jens Jensen (ranked 2430 p4p, 3488 weight class) and Andre Mahesa (ranked 142 p4p, 203 weight class). Mahesa has chosen You're Going Down as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jens Jensen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Andre Mahesa!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mahesa has closed the distance and engaged Jensen in a clinch.
Mahesa scores with a shoulder strike.
Mahesa lands with a short shot to the head.
Jensen has Mahesa pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Mahesa manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Mahesa has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Mahesa makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Jensen takes a shot to the head.
Jensen lands with a light punch inside.
We've been hearing reports that Jensen has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Mahesa tries a body shot but Jensen blocks it.
Jensen lands with a short shot to the head.
Mahesa lands with a light punch inside.
Mahesa blocks an uppercut.
Mahesa stops a takedown attempt from Jensen.
Jensen fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jensen is working for takedown but Mahesa is calmly controlling the position for now.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jens Jensen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Jensen.
Still in the clinch, Mahesa scores with a nice short uppercut.
Jensen has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mahesa avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Mahesa lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Jensen or not.

Mahesa lands a hook to the side of the head.
Mahesa gets underhooks to prevent Jensen's takedown attempt.
Jensen throws a punch but it's blocked by Mahesa.
Mahesa tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Jensen.
Mahesa missing with knees to the body.
Jensen fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Jensen changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mahesa fights it off and pushes away nicely.
A looping hook to the body misses from Mahesa. Jensen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jensen drops down looking for a counter takedown but Mahesa sprawls and moves away.

Jensen gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mahesa to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Jensen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mahesa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Mahesa has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jensen is proving hard to escape from.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mahesa won't allow Jensen to sweep him here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mahesa would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Jensen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jensen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mahesa defends it easily.
Mahesa wanted to stand there but Jensen had control of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jensen has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Mahesa should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Jensen has tightened it up now! Mahesa should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
