The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie misses with the combination.

We've been told by Komakech's head coaches at The Rubber Guard Emporium that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Komakech tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gracie was well out of range. Poor timing from Komakech.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Komakech as he jumps to the side.
A little feinted left hand from Komakech on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Gracie fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Komakech sprawls well initially but Gracie persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Komakech tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Gracie manages to move to mount!
Komakech knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Komakech is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Komakech tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gracie wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Komakech tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Komakech is looking to control Gracie's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Komakech avoid being mounted?

Gracie is thwarting Komakech's attempts to control the position.
