PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tony Stat (ranked 6898 p4p, 3782 weight class) and Muhammad Arslan (ranked 673 p4p, 486 weight class). Tony Stat has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Stat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Muhammad Arslan!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Skip Squint and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Arslan pushes Stat up against the cage in a clinch.
Stat tries to circle away but Arslan has him pinned against the cage.

Arslan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Stat digs a good hook to Arslan's body.
Arslan dives in and grabs Stat's left leg, looking for a takedown. Stat pushes down on Arslan's head and hops out.
Stat went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Arslan changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Stat cracks Arslan with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Arslan forces Stat back against the cage and clinches.
Stat is trying to push Arslan away but Arslan has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stat is fighting off a takedown attempt but Arslan is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Stat to the mat. Stat regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Arslan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stat swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Arslan stops Stat from standing up.

Arslan stands and steps away. Stat gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Arslan throws a left and a right that both miss
and Stat counters with a nice uppercut.

Arslan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Arslan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Arslan tries for a kimura but Stat is defending well.
Stat pushes Arslan away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Arslan gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stat prevents Arslan from moving into mount.
Stat is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Stat trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Arslan controls the position.

Arslan tries for a kimura but Stat is defending well.
Arslan is chipping away with strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stat wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Stat is trying to escape the position but Arslan is controlling the position.
Arslan is putting a hurting on Stat here, landing some big shots from side control.
You can see the frustration on Stat's face as Arslan controls the position.
Arslan's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Arslan decides to stand back up. Arslan steps back and let's Stat get back to his feet.
Stat misses with the combination.

Arslan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Arslan tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Stat just stands there and leans against the cage.

Arslan gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Well, if Arslan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Stat fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Stat tries to bum rush Arslan with a series of wild strikes but Arslan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Arslan throws a counter combo.

Arslan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Arslan won't allow Stat to get back to his feet.
Arslan lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Arslan with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Stat is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Arslan decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Tony Stat is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A low kick from Arslan misses
and Stat counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Stat will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Arslan decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Stat, up you get!
Stat misses with a left hand

and Arslan moves into the clinch.

Arslan breaks the clinch.
Sloppy strikes from Arslan. Those never looked like landing.
Stat displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Arslan throws out the jab.
Stat appears to be looking for a big counter.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Stat wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Stat is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Stat tries to bum rush Arslan with a series of wild strikes but Arslan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Tony Stat is winning the standup battle so far.

Arslan manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Stat on his heels. He'll look to pass Stat's guard now, I'm sure.

Stat pushes Arslan off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stat lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Arslan throws a lazy body kick
and Stat counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Stat lunges at Arslan with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Arslan's hand.

Arslan shoots in and bounces Stat off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Stat is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Arslan is controlling him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Arslan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Stat is looking to stand up but Arslan isn't so interested in that idea.
Arslan controls from within his opponent's guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Muhammad Arslan will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Stat's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Stat throws a right and a left that both miss.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Arslan successfully pulls guard.

Arslan kicks Stat off and gets to his feet.
Arslan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Stat's waist but Stat gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Arslan off to one side.
Arslan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Stat scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

and Arslan counters by moving into the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Stat's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Stat has had enough of the clinch but Arslan keeps him there for the moment.
Stat really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Stat has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Arslan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Arslan gets cracked there but stands up to it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Stat enables Arslan to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Stat manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Arslan looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Let's hope that Arslan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Arslan prevents Stat from getting back to his feet.

Arslan is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Arslan stands up and waves to Stat to follow him.
Arslan tries for a takedown but Stat circles away easily
and Stat counters with a straight right hand.
Tony Stat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Muhammad Arslan.

Arslan shoots in and bounces Stat off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Arslan is looking to work some ground and pound but Stat has wrist control.

Arslan cracks Stat with a solid left hand.
Arslan stops Stat from standing up.
Arslan is stalling in the full guard.
More stalling from Arslan.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
It looks like Stat has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Stat lands a jab-cross combination.

Arslan drives through and clinches with Stat against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Stat wants to get back to striking at distance but Arslan won't allow it.
Stat tries to break the clinch but Arslan is controlling the position.
Tony Stat has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Muhammad Arslan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Stat tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

And that's the end of the fight!
Muhammad Arslan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Arslan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
