The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brown is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Brown drives through with a takedown into guard. Red working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Brown doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Brown manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Brown seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Brown postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Brown lands a couple of decent looking shots.
It looks like Ace Red has been cut. Brown has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Brown is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Brown controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Red controls Brown momentarily but Brown frees himself. Brown is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brown is pushing down on Red's leg trying to pass to half guard. Red is fighting to maintain full guard but Brown has managed to sneak the leg through. Brown has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Red defend it? Brown steps over the head and cranks it - Red is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Brown!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). John Brown!
