PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Shadow Moon (ranked 4932 p4p, 3097 weight class) and John Reyes (ranked 232 p4p, 154 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Shadow Moon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Reyes!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reyes has managed to clinch.
Moon tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Moon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Reyes.

Moon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Moon throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Reyes lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Moon backs up against the cage.
Moon keeps the fight on the outside.
Moon is looking to score with low kicks.
Moon fails with a takedown attempt.
Reyes takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Nice sprawl there from Moon as Reyes shoots in.
Reyes lands with a nice combination. Moon backs away looking to recover.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Reyes misses with a wild body shot.
Horrible takedown attempt by Reyes or perhaps it was just good defense by Moon, which made it look bad.

Moon lands the left hand.
Moon throws a right hand that misses
and Reyes counters with a two punch combo.
Reyes is looking to clinch but Moon is avoiding it.
Moon misses with the combination.
Reyes throws a right hand that Moon ducks under and follows up with a left that Moon also avoids with ease.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Reyes.
Shadow Moon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Reyes.
Reyes misses with a jab, cross combination.
Moon looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

and Reyes counters with a left and a right that stings Moon.

Reyes shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Moon closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Reyes did well to prevent Moon getting side control.

Moon seems to be looking for submissions.
Reyes blocking the ground and pound attempt from Moon.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reyes tries to get to full guard but Moon has control of the leg.

Moon looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Moon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Reyes on the ground.
Moon is breathing heavily.
Reyes keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Reyes looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Reyes has hold of Moon's hands but Moon slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Moon trying to mount his opponent but Reyes defends it.

Reyes kicks Moon off and gets back to his feet.
Nice sprawl there from Moon as Reyes shoots in.
We've been informed that Reyes has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Reyes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Moon tries to avoid it but Reyes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Moon to the ground. Moon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Reyes shoots in but no luck this time.
Moon throwing a counter right hand but Reyes manages to avoid it.

Moon shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Moon showed some decent athleticism there.
Reyes slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Reyes wants to sweep but no luck.
Reyes has control of Moon's left arm, preventing Moon from doing any damage.
Moon in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Reyes is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Moon is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Reyes manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Moon shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Reyes is defended easily by Moon.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

John Reyes dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Reyes with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Moon fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Reyes checks it well.
Moon misses with a body shot.
Reyes tries to counter by closing the distance.
Reyes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Moon tries to avoid it but Reyes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Moon to the ground. Moon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

It seemed like Reyes was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Moon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Reyes checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Reyes fails to land with a series of punches.
Moon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Reyes tries to clinch up.
As Reyes backs away, Moon returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Reyes fails with the takedown.
Moon throws a leg kick which misses Reyes's front leg but catches the back leg as Reyes tries to avoid it.
Moon throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Reyes stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Shadow Moon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice takedown defense from Moon. No joy for Reyes on that attempt.
Shadow Moon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Reyes.
Moon throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Reyes unleashes a big counter combination but Moon bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Moon throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Reyes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Reyes throws a lazy right hand but Moon sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

As Reyes backs away, Moon returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Reyes avoids the head kick by Moon.

Moon tries to score a power double leg takedown but Reyes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Moon somewhat.
Moon keeps the fight on the outside.
A clash of legs there as Reyes blocks the low kick.
Reyes misses with a low kick.
Moon throws a body punch but Reyes moves out of range.
Reyes feints the counter takedown.
Reyes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Reyes rushes Moon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Moon tries to break the clinch but Reyes is controlling the position.

Moon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Reyes throws a body kick that misses.
Moon throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Reyes works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Reyes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Reyes shoots in and drives through. Moon sprawls well.
Reyes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Moon throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Reyes with the counter takedown but Moon avoids it easily.

Reyes has closed the distance and engaged Moon in a clinch.

Reyes moves out of range of the body kick from Moon.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Shadow Moon will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Both fighters circling a little - Reyes finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Moon is trying to stand up here but Reyes is controlling him well.

You get the feeling that Moon really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Reyes can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Moon is looking to escape.

Reyes is working for a guillotine from mount but Moon frees his head quite easily.
Moon on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Moon tries to get out of the position.
Reyes sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Reyes's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

John Reyes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Reyes has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
