PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Doug Crocket (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Sanderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanderson has chosen Take Me Away as his entrance music. Ryan Sanderson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Doug Crocket!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Sanderson!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanderson stuffs the takedown attempt from Crocket. Crocket gets slowly back to his feet.

Sanderson drives through with a takedown into guard.

Crocket might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Crocket is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Sanderson works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Sanderson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Crocket keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sanderson is working for a kimura but Crocket is defending it quite comfortably.
Crocket wants to control but Sanderson is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Sanderson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Crocket is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Crocket is looking for a sweep.

Sanderson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
You can see the frustration on Crocket's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Crocket tries to bench press Sanderson off him but Sanderson keeps the position.

Crocket tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sanderson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Sanderson manages to get back to half guard.
Sanderson wants to improve his position but Crocket is controlling well.
Sanderson looks gassed!
Crocket uses his free foot to push down on Sanderson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sanderson.
Crocket lands a nice shot to the head.
Crocket is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Sanderson is in real trouble.

Crocket is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Sanderson is defending well though. Crocket let's go of the attempt for now.

Sanderson turns into Crocket and is now in his guard.

Crocket has his foot on Sanderson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sanderson works his way back into a safe position though.

Crocket has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sanderson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Crocket working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sanderson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sanderson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Crocket trying to keep a closed guard but Sanderson is proving a slippery customer.
Sanderson wants to get up but he can't break Crocket's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That was a close round but I would say that Doug Crocket will probably get the nod.
That's time! Crocket's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Sanderson takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Crocket throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sanderson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Crocket drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sanderson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Crocket has Sanderson in his guard.
Sanderson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sanderson wants to control from the top but Crocket keeps moving.

Crocket is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Crocket had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Sanderson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Crocket Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Sanderson's back instead.

Crocket keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Doug Crocket seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Crocket scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Sanderson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Sanderson wants to sweep here but Crocket controlling him for the moment.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Crocket shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Crocket was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Sanderson slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Crocket is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Sanderson is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
