Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Shortman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gus Tarbols! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Ryoma Takatsuka and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tarbols moves into the clinch. Shortman drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Tarbols gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Shortman tightens his grip and picks Tarbols up, before dumping him to the ground. Tarbols manages to land in guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shortman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tarbols escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shortman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tarbols looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Shortman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shortman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Tarbols is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Shortman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Shortman advances to half guard. Tarbols is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Shortman seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shortman is working for a kimura but Tarbols is defending it quite comfortably.
Shortman has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Tarbols defend it? Shortman steps over the head and cranks it - Tarbols is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Shortman!
