The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Doyle gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. De Vries can't get the takedown.
De Vries tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Doyle just stands there and leans against the cage. Doyle is working for takedown but De Vries is calmly controlling the position for now. De Vries gets a trip takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Doyle (0) vs (2) De Vries De Vries wants to pass the guard but Doyle is defending well. De Vries is just content to waste time from the top position. Doyle takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. De Vries looking to sit in guard and control but Doyle gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. De Vries tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Doyle is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. De Vries throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Doyle escapes and throws De Vries's legs to the side, diving into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Doyle (5) vs (2) De Vries De Vries gets back to half guard. De Vries is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Doyle's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Doyle's back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Doyle (5) vs (6) De Vries
That's two minutes gone in the round. Doyle tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Doyle slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. De Vries tries to pass to full mount but Doyle defends it. De Vries is working for a kimura but Doyle is defending it quite comfortably.

Doyle pulls De Vries in close to his closed guard and prevents De Vries from doing any damage or advancing position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Doyle looking for a triangle here. De Vries is fighting it but it looks tight! Doyle pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, De Vries is tapping out - this one is all over!
