PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fabian Rooi (ranked 3080 p4p, 4929 weight class) and Rein Carnate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carnate tries to clinch but Rooi moves away

and Rooi counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Rooi thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Carnate's head.
Rooi not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Rooi stands up and beckons Carnate to join him on the feet.

Carnate dives in and grabs Rooi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rooi pushes down on Carnate's head and hops out.
Carnate doesn't manage to clinch there - Rooi circles away.

Rooi feints and as Carnate raises his hands in defense, Rooi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rooi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Rooi's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Carnate wants to get back to his feet but Rooi is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carnate throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Carnate has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rooi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Rooi engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Carnate really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rooi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rooi throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Rooi dives in for a single leg takedown but Carnate sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
As Rooi backs off Carnate throws a huge counter combo but Rooi manages to avoid it all.

Carnate has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rooi uses from the top position.
Carnate wants to stand and escape but Rooi is having none of it.

Carnate might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rooi haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Carnate decides to stand up.

Rooi darts in and clinches Carnate up against the cage.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A frustrated look appears on Carnate's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Carnate wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Rooi tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Carnate just stands there and leans against the cage.

Carnate breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rooi is looking to clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carnate throws a series of punches but Rooi avoids them all with ease.
Carnate fails with a takedown attempt.

Rein Carnate showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rooi has Carnate pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Rooi pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Carnate tumbling to the mat - Rooi dives into Carnate's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Carnate manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Carnate is looking to break free of the clinch but Rooi has double underhooks.

Rooi tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Rooi is pressed up against the cage. Carnate has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rooi down to the mat. Rooi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Carnate shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rooi defends it nicely.

Carnate throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Rooi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Carnate paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rooi throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
And Carnate tries to counter it with a takedown but Rooi pushes his down on his head and steps out.

It looked like Rooi was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

and Rooi counters with a single leg into guard. Carnate didn't expect that.

Carnate is looking for a triangle here but Rooi uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Rooi passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Carnate!
