PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tristan Young (ranked 25053 p4p, 7027 weight class) and Alex Harper (ranked 655 p4p, 0 weight class). Young has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Tristan Young! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Alex Harper! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Colin Fotheringham and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Young lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Harper circles away quickly and effectively. Harper shapes to counter with a head kick. Young is breathing heavily. Harper drops Young with a beautiful combination! Young stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Harper is looking for the KO!
It looks like Tristan Young has been cut. Young throws a left and a right that both miss
and Harper counters by clinching up. Harper gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. This has been an exciting period of action! Young being controlled here, momentarily. Harper decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Young, up you get! Harper closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Young quickly recovers to half guard. Harper working over Young with some ground and pound. Young looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Harper controlling the pace. Let's hope that Harper has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harper wants to pass to mount but Young is defending the position. Harper uses his free foot to push down on Young's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Young. Harper looking to finish Young with some ground and pound. This is bad for Young! Harper controlling from mount. Harper looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Harper controlling his opponent. Young defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Harper. Harper with the ground and pound from mount. Harper controlling the pace for now. A big strike lands for Harper! That's really hurt Young and he's turned his back - Harper keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Harper jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Harper!
