PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Polliisi Partio (ranked 1526 p4p, 1472 weight class) and Abdul Rahman (ranked 217 p4p, 210 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Polliisi Partio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Abdul Rahman!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rahman misses with a hook.
Rahman throws a combination. Partio tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Partio shoots in and bounces Rahman off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Rahman is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Partio is controlling him.
Rahman is working an open guard so Partio takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Partio fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Partio throws a body shot but no joy.
Partio displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Rahman throws out the jab.
Rahman tries to sprawl but Partio drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rahman is trying to stand up here but Partio is controlling him well.
Rahman is refusing to be controlled, as Partio sits in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Partio with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Rahman looks like he's trying to stand up.
Partio trying to control the action but Rahman is working from the bottom.
Partio stands up and beckons Rahman to join him on the feet.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Partio will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Rahman stuns Partio with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Partio defending well as Rahman loads up on a big left hand.
Partio lands a glancing blow to the side of Rahman's head.
It looks like Abdul Rahman has been cut.
Partio takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Rahman misses with a hook. Partio ducked under it nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Partio stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Rahman.
A cross from Rahman lands.
A looping hook to the body misses from Partio. Rahman does a little dance to reset his feet.
Rahman lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rahman scores with a jab to the head.
Rahman is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Partio.
Rahman throws a looping overhand right but Partio ducks down to avoid it.
Partio avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rahman takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Rahman lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Rahman motions for Partio to come forward. Rahman throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Partio seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Rahman connects with a single shot there.
Rahman's corner calls for a 1-2. Rahman obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Partio darts in looking for a takedown but Rahman gets double underhooks and turns Partio into the cage.
Rahman misses with a punch on the inside.
Rahman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rahman missing with a left hand there. Partio was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Partio went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
A solid leg kick lands there for Partio.
Partio closes the distance and clinches up with Rahman, looking for a takedown. Partio pushes Rahman against the cage but Rahman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Polliisi Partio. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rahman gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Rahman misses with a looping left.
Partio misses with a wild body shot.
Rahman throws a low kick, looking for Partio's leg but Partio calmly moves out of range.

Partio throws an overhand right that lands on Rahman's shoulder, as Rahman tries to avoid the shot.
Rahman moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Rahman throws out a leg kick but Partio moves out of range and Rahman only half commits.
Partio throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rahman's waist but Rahman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Partio off to one side.
Horrible takedown attempt by Partio or perhaps it was just good defense by Rahman, which made it look bad.
Rahman scores with a hook to the body. Partio takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Partio ducks right into an uppercut from Rahman.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Partio closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Partio has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Good exchange - Rahman coming out on top.
A big left from Rahman misses.
No joy there for Rahman, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rahman is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Partio had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.
Partio keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Rahman.
Partio seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
The fighters circle momentarily. Rahman darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Partio throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Abdul Rahman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rahman scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Partio lands with an uppercut that bounces Rahman off the cage and back into range.
Rahman throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Partio sees it coming and avoids it easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Partio takes one to the chin there.
Rahman wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Partio misses the shot to the body.
Rahman lands a nice shot that snaps Partio's head back.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Abdul Rahman dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Abdul Rahman's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Rahman scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Rahman fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Partio has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Nice shot lands for Rahman.
Rahman blocks a head kick by Partio.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rahman! But no joy.
Partio's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Rahman connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Partio scrambles back to his feet.
Partio is rocked!
Partio on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Oh Partio is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Partio throws out a loose jab but Rahman uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rahman throws a pinpoint strike between Partio's hands that connects right on the jaw and sends Partio crashing to the floor! He's out before he even hits the mat and Rahman scores a great knockout victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Abdul Rahman!
