PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mick Murphy (ranked 394 p4p, 2243 weight class) and David Yung (ranked 61 p4p, 317 weight class). Yung has chosen 陳小春 - 亂世巨星 as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mick Murphy!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, David Yung!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murphy's corner calls for a 1-2. Murphy obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Yung takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Yung goes for a double leg but Murphy avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Murphy continues to drive forward.
Mick Murphy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yung tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Murphy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Murphy misses with a wild body shot.
Yung wants to counter the offense by Murphy and move into the clinch position.
Murphy connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Yung's hands.

Yung has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Murphy is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Yung.

Yung might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Murphy haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Yung had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Murphy defends it easily.

Yung is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Murphy defends well.

Yung has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Murphy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

And Yung tries to counter it with a takedown but Murphy pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Murphy catches Yung with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Yung changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Murphy tries to avoid it but Yung manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Murphy to the ground. Murphy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Yung bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Murphy leaves Yung with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Murphy is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Murphy lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Yung drops back, looking for a kneebar! Murphy looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Murphy looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Murphy!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Murphy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
