PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kyler Kane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Happy Pete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kyler Kane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Happy Pete!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kane tries a head kick but it misses.
Kane shoots in for a double leg but Pete sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kyler Kane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kane misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pete keeps the fight on the outside.
Kane lands the left hand.
Kane tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pete paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Pete shoots in looking for a takedown. Kane tries to sprawl out of it but Pete keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kane manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kyler Kane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pete avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kane misses with a few strikes there.
Pete takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Happy Pete has been cut.
Kane keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Pete tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kane swivels and escapes.

Pete changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kane looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kane is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Kane knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pete on the ground.
Kane tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pete wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kane is not content to let Pete control the position.

Kane can't do much from the bottom here.
Pete creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Kane sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Pete lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kane down.

Kane is not content to let Pete control the position.

You can see the frustration on Kane's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Kane wants to get back to his feet.
Pete tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

The strikes coming from Pete are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Pete throws a strike aimed at the side of Kane's head but Kane avoids it well.
Pete is putting a hurting on Kane here, landing some big shots from side control.

Pete is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kane knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pete creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Kane sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Pete misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kane moves in looking to clinch but Pete pushes him off.
Kane works over Pete's head and body with a nice combination.

and Pete counters with a shoot takedown. Kane fights it but they end up in guard.
Kane on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kane tries to get out of the position.
Pete stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kane swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pete accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Pete throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kane works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Happy Pete dominated that round.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Pete closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kane is trying to maintain the position but Pete is very close to passing his half guard.
Pete thows a huge punch but Kane dodges it nicely.

Pete seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Pete wants to pass to mount but Kane is defending the position.
Kane wants to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pete is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Kane is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Pete keeps control of the position for the meantime.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Happy Pete showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Kane tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pete paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kane cracks Pete with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Kane wants to clinch up but Pete keeps it at a distance.

and Pete decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kane's guard.
Pete content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Pete won't allow Kane to sweep him here.
Pete postures up and lands a big shot to Kane's brow.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pete drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kane dives on top into guard.

Pete has Kane pulled in close to control his posture.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Pete shoots in and drives through. Kane sprawls well.

Pete shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Pete is working Kane over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Happy Pete has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pete's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Pete postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Kane has momentary wrist control but Pete slips an elbow through the middle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pete scoring with some ground and pound.
Pete throws and elbow that misses. Kane uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pete's guard. Nice move by Kane!
Kane would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kane won't allow Pete to sweep him here.
Pete throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Pete escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kane gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Happy Pete is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Pete throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kane's waist but Kane gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pete off to one side.
Kyler Kane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Happy Pete.
Kane scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Pete doesn't seem bothered though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Happy Pete comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Pete winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
