PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between The Other Jonas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kane Mathis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jonas has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Kane Mathis told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jonas tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Mathis looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Jonas!
Jonas is breathing heavily.
Mathis lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Jonas hang on?
Mathis has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jonas's face.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Mathis has hold of Jonas's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Jonas manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mathis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jonas is looking to stand up but Mathis isn't so interested in that idea.

Mathis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jonas circles away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mathis clinches up with Jonas and pushes him back against the cage.

Mathis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Mathis works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Mathis slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mathis decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jonas, up you get!

Mathis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mathis works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Mathis wants the takedown. Jonas is fighting it off but Mathis persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Jonas's guard against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mathis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mathis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Mathis is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Mathis wants to control from the top but Jonas keeps moving.

Kane Mathis has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mathis stands up over Jonas, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Mathis keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jonas's head.

Mathis stands and steps away. Jonas gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Jonas chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Mathis can pounce on him.

Mathis shoots in and bounces Jonas off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Jonas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mathis pinned against the cage. Mathis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mathis tries a low kick but Jonas avoids it.
Mathis lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Mathis closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Mathis is controlling the pace.
Mathis's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Mathis scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Mathis decides to stand up.
Mathis looks for a takedown but Jonas sprawls well.

Mathis clinches up with Jonas and pushes him back against the cage.

Mathis has picked Jonas up - he's going for a ride! Mathis dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Mathis works his foot free and advances to mount.

Mathis is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jonas is surviving well by controlling Mathis's body position as best he can.

Mathis keeps control of the position easily here as Jonas tries to buck him off.
Mathis is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Mathis gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Mathis gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Mathis apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Jonas tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mathis looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mathis content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mathis passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Jonas!

And that's the end of the fight!
Kane Mathis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Mathis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
