Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hitoshi Shinso (ranked 6108 p4p, 4860 weight class) and Keishin Smith (ranked 307 p4p, 257 weight class). Keishin Smith told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hitoshi Shinso! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Keishin Smith! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shinso avoids a punch combination nicely.
Shinso drives through and clinches with Smith against the cage.
Smith wants a takedown.
Shinso misses with a hook to the ribs.
Shinso pulls guard effortlessly. Shinso is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shinso working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Smith wants to stand and escape but instead Shinso has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shinso. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Shinso fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Smith avoids it really well and circles away. Smith throws a left and a right that both miss
and Shinso counters by moving into the clinch. Shinso jumps guard.
Shinso is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Smith wants to stand but Shinso is controlling his posture from full guard. Shinso is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Smith presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Shinso wants to take the fight to the mat but Smith manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Smith is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Smith is trying to force a seperation but Shinso has the dominant position.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hitoshi Shinso. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shinso's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Left hook, right uppercut from Smith. Shinso looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. This has been an exciting period of action! Smith lands a nice shot that snaps Shinso's head back.
Smith misses with a straight right. Smith throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Shinso stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Shinso misses with a takedown and Smith counters with a right hand to the body. Shinso is breathing heavily. Smith misses with a two punch combination.
Smith throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shinso. Shinso uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Smith.
Smith connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Shinso momentarily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Shinso circles away quickly and effectively. As Smith looks to move away, Shinso throws a big counter combo but Smith just gets out of the way. Smith throws a combination that misses and Shinso counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Shinso is working for takedown but Smith is calmly controlling the position for now. Shinso prevents Smith from breaking the clinch. Shinso manages to break the clinch.
Smith slaps away a takedown attempt from Shinso, before circling back to the center of the mat. Smith works over Shinso's head and body with a nice combination. Shinso drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Some wild striking there from Smith.
Shinso tries for a takedown but Smith sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Smith looks like he wants to counter punch here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Danga de danga de dang - Smith scores with a four punch combination! This has been an exciting period of action! Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Smith!
Shinso is looking to clinch. Smith looks like he wants to counter punch here. Smith connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Shinso's hands. Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nice shot lands for Smith. Smith lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. A nice combination there by Smith.
Shinso takes a shot to the body in his stride.
The crowd cheers as Smith lands an impressive looking overhand right. Shinso doesn't seem phased though. Shinso misses with a wild body shot. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Keishin Smith dominated that round. That's time! Shinso's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Smith takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Smith gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Shinso to score an easy takedown into full guard. Smith is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Shinso dives into side control.
Smith is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Smith throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Smith swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Smith lands a jab to the nose. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Smith misses with a series of wild punches.
Smith misses with a left hand and Shinso holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

A frustrated look appears on Smith's face as he tries to break the clinch. Shinso is struggling to control the position. A head punch on the inside from Shinso fails to land. Smith trying to stall but Shinso improves his position.

Keishin Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Smith lands a two punch combo.
Shinso takes a shot right to the bread basket. Shinso darts in trying to clinch and Smith counters with a left and a right that stings Shinso. Shinso drops his hands momentarily and Smith takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shinso tries to clinch up. Smith jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Shinso shoots for a takedown but Smith saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Smith misses with the combination.

Shinso shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smith as he avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hitoshi Shinso. That's going to take a lot out of him. A nice combination there by Smith.
Smith digs a good body shot into Shinso's ribs. Shinso looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Shinso takes one to the side of the head.

Shinso closes the distance and pushes Smith back into the cage. Shinso pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Keishin Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Shinso shoots in and drives through. Smith sprawls well. Smith throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Shinso has a takedown stuffed. Despite the aggression on Smith's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Keishin Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round! Smith displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Smith slaps away a takedown attempt from Shinso, before circling back to the center of the mat. Smith lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

It looked like Shinso was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Smith. Smith throws a right hand that Shinso ducks under and follows up with a left that Shinso also avoids with ease.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Smith cracks Shinso with an open hand slap. Smith tries to bum rush Shinso with a series of wild strikes but Shinso uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Shinso throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Shinso off to one side. Smith lands a glancing blow to the side of Shinso's head. Smith dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Smith scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Hitoshi Shinso is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Smith misses with a double jab.
Smith lands a lovely overhand right. Shinso looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Smith manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Shinso keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith tries a knee to the head but Shinso blocks it.

Smith is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Shinso is defending well for now. Smith has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Shinso using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Smith has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Shinso is defending well against a takedown attempt. Smith is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. A battle for position here, against the cage. Smith breaks the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Smith works Shinso's body with a nice hook. Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shinso moves away. Smith just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromShinso. Shinso shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Smith defends it nicely. Smith works Shinso's body with a nice hook. Smith throws a right hand that Shinso ducks under and follows up with a left that Shinso also avoids with ease. Shinso fails with a takedown attempt.
And that's the end of the fight! Keishin Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Smith winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
