PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Craig Ryan (ranked 4389 p4p, 3534 weight class) and Joseph Allen (ranked 522 p4p, 447 weight class). Allen is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Vigiliand - UFO. Joseph Allen has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Craig Ryan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joseph Allen!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Allen looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Ryan!
Ryan can't do much from the bottom here.
Ryan is trying to improve his position.
Allen working the ground and pound.
Ryan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ryan is looking to get back to his feet here but Allen is keeping cool and he's managed to take Ryan's back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Allen is hanging on to Ryan's back as he tries to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Allen just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Allen not allowing Ryan to control his hands.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Allen controlling the positon.
Allen is punishing Ryan with strikes - can he finish him?!
Allen trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Ryan doesn't escape.
Allen connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Ryan to escape the position.

Ryan manages to reverse the position and now he's in Allen's guard. Nice work there by Ryan.
Allen controlling the position.
Ryan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Allen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Allen wants to sweep here but Ryan controlling him for the moment.
Ryan is looking to work some ground and pound but Allen has wrist control.
Allen throwing rabbit punches from the bottom - showing the judges that he's keeping busy.

Ryan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ryan enables Allen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ryan manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Ryan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Allen controls the pace.
Ryan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Allen controls from within his opponent's guard.
Ryan looking to control.

Allen is in close to Ryan's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Ryan controls Allen momentarily but Allen frees himself.
Allen looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Allen drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Ryan bucks up and tries to throw Allen off but instead Allen has got his back!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Allen stalling against the cage.

Allen gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Ryan trying to hold on to Allen's head to control him but Allen postures up.
Ryan tries to get to full guard but Allen has control of the leg.
Allen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ryan gets full guard.
Allen engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Ryan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Ryan is looking for a triangle but Allen pushes his legs off easily.
Allen sitting in guard here, content to control.
Allen's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Allen darts in and clinches Ryan up against the cage.
Allen is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Allen wants the takedown. Ryan is fighting it off but Allen persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Ryan's guard against the cage.
Allen postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Allen stays in close to Ryan's body and controls the position.
Ryan controls Allen momentarily but Allen frees himself.
Allen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Ryan thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Allen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Allen has taken the fight to the clinch.
Allen tries to land knees in the clinch but Ryan avoids the damage to the body.
Allen tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Ryan tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Allen smiles and moves away.

Allen moves into the clinch.

Allen has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Ryan clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Allen connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Ryan to escape the position.
Allen keeps control of the position as Ryan tries to break free.
Ryan trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ryan is covering up but some of the strikes from Allen are getting through and doing damage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Allen is trying to stick to Ryan's back but Ryan is turning into Allen. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Allen's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Ryan.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Joseph Allen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ryan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Allen is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Allen dives in for a single leg takedown but Ryan sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Ryan tries to clinch up but Allen circles away and keeps his distance.

Allen closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ryan's guard.

Allen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ryan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Allen controls the pace.
Ryan seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Ryan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Allen cracks Ryan with a solid left hand.
Ryan can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Allen controls the pace.

Allen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ryan but Ryan pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ryan throws a sloppy head kick and Allen moves out of range easily.
Ryan doesn't manage to clinch there - Allen circles away.
Allen darts in looking for a takedown but Ryan gets double underhooks and turns Allen into the cage.
Craig Ryan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joseph Allen.
Allen fails to land the takedown.
Ryan keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Allen.
Allen fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Ryan misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Allen.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Allen just misses with a elbow thrown towards Ryan's brow.
Allen tries to land a knee to the head but Ryan blocks with his arms.

Allen has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ryan regains guard immediately.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ryan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ryan is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Allen is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Allen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Ryan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Joseph Allen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Allen is working Ryan over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Allen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Craig Ryan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Craig Ryan.
I think Allen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
