CACC 205: Nielsen vs Silva Jr PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 2 losses; Rich Silva Jr! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and George Francis.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Nielsen moves into the clinch successfully.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Silva Jr has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nielsen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Silva Jr is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Nielsen tries to free his leg and advance position but Silva Jr is retaining full guard. Nielsen trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva Jr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Silva Jr has his hands on Nielsen's head, controlling the position. Nielsen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva Jr swivels though and keeps the full guard. Nielsen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Silva Jr has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nielsen has managed to get both his arms back between Silva Jr's legs - danger averted.

Silva Jr has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Silva Jr keeping moving, preventing Nielsen from controlling successfully. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Nielsen trying to control the position but Silva Jr is working away. Silva Jr tries to get back to half guard but can't. Nielsen tries to advance to mount but Silva Jr denies him. Silva Jr tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nielsen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Silva Jr is trying to control Nielsen's posture but Nielsen avoids it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nielsen moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Nielsen trying to control the action but Silva Jr is working from the bottom. Silva Jr manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Nielsen (3) vs (2) Silva Jr Nielsen is refusing to be controlled, as Silva Jr sits in half guard. Nielsen is trying to get back to full guard. Silva Jr tries to pass to full mount but Nielsen defends it. Nielsen regains full guard. Nicely done.

My spies in Oblivion Gate inform me that Silva Jr has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Nielsen tries to land a sweep but no joy. Nielsen trying to keep a closed guard but Silva Jr is proving a slippery customer.

Silva Jr is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Nielsen controls Silva Jr momentarily but Silva Jr frees himself. Silva Jr controls from within his opponent's guard. Silva Jr has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Nielsen to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Silva Jr is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Nielsen pulls down on the head and he's put Silva Jr to sleep! This one is all over!
