PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hade Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Lafever (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wood comes to the cage accompanied by Mama Said Knock You Out. Danny Lafever told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hade Wood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danny Lafever! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Danga de danga de dang - Wood scores with a four punch combination! Wood throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Lafever finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Wood gets a takedown into half guard. Wood is looking for a kimura but Lafever is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Wood to get the leverage. Lafever tries to roll over but Wood keeps him under control. Wood takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Wood throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wood wants to work for an arm triangle but Lafever is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Lafever really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wood. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Wood is trying to work for a kimura but Lafever is defending well.
Wood is pressing down on Lafever's thigh, looking to free his foot. Lafever is holding on for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lafever tries to roll over but Wood keeps him under control. Wood is trying to control the action in half guard but Lafever is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Wood thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Wood has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Lafever is looking to improve his position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Lafever throws a sloppy head kick and Wood moves out of range easily. Wood misses with a double jab.
Lafever misses with a body punch
and Wood counters with a takedown into side control. Lafever is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Wood's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Lafever is trying to stand up here but Wood is controlling him well. Lafever is not content to let Wood control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lafever gets full guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lafever is on top in guard.
Lafever must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Lafever wanted to stand there but Wood had control of the position. Wood had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Lafever is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Wood Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Lafever's back instead. Lafever is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Wood gets his way!
Wood is breathing heavily. Lafever trying to control the hands but Wood breaks the grip.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lafever preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Wood. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Lafever trying to control the hands but Wood won't let him. Lafever wants to escape the position.
Wood is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Wood wants to control but Lafever manages to buck him off and is now in Wood's guard! Nice work there by Lafever!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Lafever preventing the sweep. Lafever would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Lafever misses with an uppercut. Lafever scores with a leg kick.
Lafever lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Lafever misses with a head kick.
Wood thuds his right hand into Lafever's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Lafever tries to clinch but fails miserably and Wood cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Lafever throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Wood walks into a jab. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hade Wood dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Lafever throws a low kick but it's checked well by Wood. Lafever keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Lafever throws a head kick but Wood moves out of range.
Wood closes the distance and clinches up with Lafever, looking for a takedown. Wood pushes Lafever against the cage but Lafever circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Lafever fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Wood is out of range. Wood swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Lafever thuds his shin into the meat of Wood's side. Lafever seems to be stalking Wood here. He circles momentarily and then unleashes a devastatic head kick! Wood drops like a stone, out cold! WOW! Are you kidding me!? What a knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Danny Lafever!
