PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clifford Val Salvacion (ranked 24702 p4p, 24406 weight class) and Poison Ivy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Clifford Val Salvacion!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Poison Ivy!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Bruno Lombardi and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Salvacion doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ivy counters with a single leg into guard. Salvacion didn't expect that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ivy decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Salvacion dives in and grabs Ivy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ivy pushes down on Salvacion's head and hops out.
Ivy steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Salvacion fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ivy appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clifford Val Salvacion. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ivy looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Salvacion is looking to counter the offense by Ivy and move into the clinch.

Ivy dives in and scores a takedown into Salvacion's guard.
Salvacion looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Ivy puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Ivy decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

and Ivy counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Salvacion keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Ivy closes this distance looking for a takedown but Salvacion circles away.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Ivy.

Salvacion closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Ivy is trying to stand back up but Salvacion is controlling him
Salvacion is looking to take a break and control but Ivy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ivy looks like he's trying to stand up.
Salvacion trying to control from half guard but Ivy is working away.

Ivy is controlling Salvacion's trapped leg to prevent Salvacion from advancing to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Salvacion wants to take a breather but Ivy is having none of it.
Ivy looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ivy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ivy lands in his opponent's guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Poison Ivy dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Ivy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Salvacion swivels and escapes.

Ivy closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Salvacion tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Ivy stands up and we're back to a striking position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion stuffs the takedown attempt from Ivy. Ivy gets slowly back to his feet.

Ivy gets the takedown into side control.

Ivy stands up and beckons Salvacion to his feet.
Ivy tries for a takedown but Salvacion sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Salvacion is looking to counter with a body kick.
Clifford Val Salvacion has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Poison Ivy.
Ivy throws a half hearted mid kick.
It appears Salvacion was looking to counter with a kick there.
Salvacion shoots in but Ivy avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Nice sprawl there from Ivy as Salvacion shoots in.
Ivy let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Ivy misses with a takedown attempt - Salvacion sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Salvacion jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

Salvacion feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Salvacion prevents Ivy from getting back to his feet.
Salvacion not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Salvacion trying to control the position from guard on top but Ivy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ivy pulls Salvacion in to control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ivy can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ivy is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Salvacion is controlling him.
Ivy pulls Salvacion in close to his closed guard and prevents Salvacion from doing any damage or advancing position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Clifford Val Salvacion will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Salvacion.

Ivy fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Salvacion sprawls well initially but Ivy persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ivy is taking a breather. Salvacion says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Ivy postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Salvacion to stand up.

Ivy stuffs the takedown attempt from Salvacion. Salvacion gets slowly back to his feet.
Ivy tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Ivy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Salvacion fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ivy follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clifford Val Salvacion. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Salvacion looks for a takedown but Ivy sprawls well.
Horrible takedown attempt by Salvacion or perhaps it was just good defense by Ivy, which made it look bad.
Ivy leaves Salvacion with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ivy throws a body kick that misses
and Salvacion counters with a nice low kick that buckles Ivy's knee momentarily.

Ivy shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Ivy wants to stand but Salvacion has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Ivy is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ivy is continuing to stall.

And that's the end of the fight!
Poison Ivy comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ivy has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
