PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Akio Kurosaki (ranked 2797 p4p, 1686 weight class) and Jay Reepo (ranked 166 p4p, 105 weight class). Reepo has chosen Going Down as his entrance music. Jay Reepo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akio Kurosaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jay Reepo!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kurosaki takes the fight into the clinch.

Reepo misses with a punch on the inside.
Still in the clinch, Reepo scores with a nice short uppercut.
Reepo is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kurosaki to keep the fight standing.

Reepo wants to pass the guard but Kurosaki is keeping the position.

Reepo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kurosaki looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kurosaki looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kurosaki!

Kurosaki goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Reepo has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kurosaki but great work by Reepo.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

A close round but Jay Reepo will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Kurosaki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Reepo's waist but Reepo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kurosaki off to one side.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Reepo! But no joy.

Kurosaki feints and as Reepo raises his hands in defense, Kurosaki changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Reepo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kurosaki gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Reepo isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Kurosaki stacks Reepo on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Kurosaki!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
No luck for Kurosaki with that takedown attempt.
Reepo missing with a left hand there. Kurosaki was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Reepo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kurosaki does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Reepo is taking a breather. Kurosaki says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Kurosaki is controlling Reepo's position as best he can from this difficult position.
