The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lovanov scores with a hook to the body. Spong takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Donk. Lovanov catches Spong right on the button with a cross.
Lovanov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Spong was well out of range. Poor timing from Lovanov.
Lovanov misses with a straight left.
The fighters circle momentarily. Lovanov darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Lovanov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Spong.

Lovanov rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Spong moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Spong closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lovanov circles away.

Lovanov ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Spong moves away.

We've been hearing good reports from Spong's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Lovanov stands up over Spong, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lovanov works over Spong with some ground and pound from guard.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Spong has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Lovanov avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Spong pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Spong has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Lovanov finds it's way round the side to connect with Spong's head.
