Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Toran Roth (ranked 2170 p4p, 3689 weight class) and Joe Smo (ranked 298 p4p, 485 weight class). Joe Smo struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 172.4lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Toran Roth! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Smo! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Good exchange - Roth coming out on top. Smo tries a head kick but it misses.
Smo has taken the fight to the clinch.
Roth tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Smo just stands there and leans against the cage. Smo blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Smo throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Roth blocks it with crossed arms. Smo breaks from the clinch.
Smo misses with a body kick. Smo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Roth, pushing him back against the cage. Roth pulls guard. Roth looking to hit a scissor sweep but Smo is one step ahead there. Roth is breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smo decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Smo has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Nice shot lands for Smo. Smo throws a body punch but Roth moves out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smo dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Smo drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Roth gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Smo trying to control but Roth is having none of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smo is looking to work his way around to Roth's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. Smo has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Roth's face.
Smo tries to control but Roth wriggling away. Smo is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Roth is surviving well by controlling Smo's body position as best he can. Smo controlling the pace for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smo is landing with some decent strikes but Roth is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Smo goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Roth turns into him and now he's in Smo's guard.
Smo wants to sweep here but Roth controlling him for the moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smo is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Smo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Roth preventing the sweep. Smo has Roth pulled in close to control his posture. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Smo is on top in guard.
Smo tries to free his leg and advance position but Roth is retaining full guard. Smo sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Roth's guard. Roth might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Smo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Smo is keen to just control but Roth is a slippery customer. Smo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Roth has managed to free his arm - good work. Smo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Roth is just riding it out for now. Smo eventually gives up the hold. Smo wants to stand but Roth has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Smo controlling the action here. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Roth gets caught napping as Smo dives in and scores a takedown. Roth manages to retain guard. Roth escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Smo trying to control the position from guard on top but Roth is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Roth working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Smo. Smo drops back looking for a leg! Roth is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Roth manages to kick Smo off! Smo jumps back into Roth's guard. Smo forces his way into half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Roth has managed to free his arm - good work.

It looks like he's just sitting there. Roth is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Smo is looking for a kimura but Roth is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smo to get the leverage. Roth is refusing to be controlled, as Smo sits in half guard. Smo decides to stand and escape the position. Smo has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Smo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Roth to the mat! Roth manages to get full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smo wants to control from the top but Roth keeps moving. Smo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roth swivels though and keeps the full guard. Smo works a leg free and moves into half guard. Smo is keen to just control but Roth is a slippery customer. Roth is defending against the submission attempts here by Smo.

Smo throws a right and a left that Roth avoids nicely. Smo stuffs the takedown. Smo misses with a wild body shot. Smo moves into the clinch successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. A head kick from Smo lands but Roth takes it in his stride. Smo leaves Roth with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Smo lands a nice shot to the body.
Smo gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Smo jumps guard and drags Roth to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Smo seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Roth preventing the sweep.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smo lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Smo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Roth is keeping the position for now. Smo sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Roth's guard. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Smo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Roth defends it well. Joe Smo is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Smo tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Smo controlling the action here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Roth is pressing down on Smo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that's the end of the fight! Joe Smo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Smo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
