PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Muchy Cartwright (ranked 3416 p4p, 4974 weight class) and Jonathan Couturier (ranked 475 p4p, 611 weight class). Cartwright comes into the arena with Mauled blaring out of the sound system. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Muchy Cartwright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jonathan Couturier!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cartwright gets a clinch.
Cartwright drops down looking for an ankle pick but Couturier pulls his leg out and moves away.
Cartwright pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Cartwright fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Couturier, pushing him back against the ropes.
Couturier is pushing Cartwright up against the ropes, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Couturier throws a head punch that misses.
Couturier is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Couturier lands a right hand.
Cartwright presses Couturier against the ropes and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Cartwright throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Couturiers head.
Cartwright unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Couturier is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee is keeping an eye on Couturier - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Cartwright tries to score a body lock takedown but Couturier shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Cartwright is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Muchy Cartwright. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cartwright is working on a single leg takedown against the ropes. Couturier can't fight it off and eventually Cartwright manages to take the fight to the floor. Couturier looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Cartwright looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Couturier with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

It looks like Jonathan Couturier has been cut.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Cartwright takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cartwright lands a nice short elbow.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cartwright stops Couturier from getting back to his feet.
Cartwright looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Cartwright has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cartwright in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Couturier tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Cartwright!

A relieved looking Muchy Cartwright thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
